CCO Patient Orthodontic Treatment in Kincumber
We want to share with you the orthodontic journey of our patient from Kincumber. He is a friendly teenage boy who loves to hang out with his friends at school. His parents brought him to us because of crooked teeth and crossbite problems. His upper canine teeth and lateral incisors were also not in their ideal position.
After a thorough orthodontic examination and discussion about his treatment options, we placed an upper expander and braces on his teeth to correct their alignment.
A palatal expander creates more space in a child’s mouth by gradually widening the upper jaw. Although this may sound scary, it’s really quite easy — both to do and to tolerate. That’s because the upper jaw develops as two separate halves that don’t completely fuse until sometime after puberty. Before that happens, the two bones can gently be separated and stabilised over several months.

The Result
After 18 months, we removed the upper expander and braces. We were able to widen his jaw to make space for his canines and lateral incisors. We have also corrected the crossbite problems, and his upper teeth no longer fit behind his lower teeth.
